The objective of breeding research is to develop elite turfgrass cultivars and new technologies in plant biotechnology.

The principal research themes in breeding section will include:

  • Collection of turfgrass from national and international for further breeding work
  • Development of DNA marker such as RFLP, RAPD and AFLP for the classification of grasses
  • Development of zoysiagrass lines for stay-green / resistance to pathogen / tolerance to shade and salt by means of cross-hybridization, selection and mutation methods
  • Research on the development transgenic turfgrass containing the genes of interests such as herbicide resistance, pathogen resistance gene, cold/hot tolerance gene.
  • Collection and the development of ornamental crops for golf courses and other turfgrass-covered area
